Kim Wallin is currently in private practice at her CPA firm, D.K. Wallin Ltd., which she founded in 1984. She took eight years off to be the Controller for the State of Nevada. She was the first CPA to be elected to the office of Nevada State Controller in 50 years and the first CMA (Certified Management Accountant) to ever hold this office.

Kim was a founding member of the AGA (Association of Government Accountants) Partnership for Intergovernmental Management and Accountability Steering Committee, Past President of NASC (National Association of State Comptrollers) and was a member of the NASACT (National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers) Executive Committee. In addition, she is a member of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), AICPA, (NVSCPA) Nevada Society of CPA, NASC, NASACT, AGA, and NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners).

She currently serves on the IMA Board of Directors, Planning and Development Committee and, Technology Solutions and Practices Committee. Kim is the Chair of the NAWBO Advocacy Committee and serves as a member of the NVSCPA Legislative Committee. She has been most recently been appointed to serve as a Commissioner on the Evidence Based Policy Making Commission.

Kim has been recognized by her peers for her work in public service and in the private sector. Most recently, she received the Lee Business School Accounting Alumna of Year Award from UNLV in April, 2015.

In 2013, she received the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers (NASACT) President’s Award for her work in improving disclosure of financial information for investors in municipal bonds.

Also in 2013, she was given the Excellence in Government Award by the Association of Government Accountants for her advocacy of improved government accountability, for the use of technology to improve government performance and for clear, concise reporting to the public.

As Controller, she also received the AGA’s President’s Award and the National Association of Comptrollers President’s Award (NASC) for her work to improve transparency in Government with the use of technology. In 2011, she received NASACT’s President’s Award for her work on various U.S. Presidential work groups and her continued efforts to improve efficiency and accountability.

Prior to becoming Controller, in September 2003, Accounting Today recognized Wallin as one of the 100 most influential people in accounting in the country. In September 2006 she was named “Woman CPA of the Year” of the entire country by the American Women’s Society of CPA’s.

As Controller she was appointed to two workgroups that were formed by an Executive Order. The first one was to address improper payments and Nevada was one of only three States that was asked to serve on the workgroup. The second one was President Obama’s Federal/State Advisory Committee on Administrative Flexibility, Lower Costs, and Better Results for State, Local, and Tribal Governments. The committee’s purpose was to promote more effective government by reducing unnecessary regulatory and administrative burdens and redirecting resources to services that are essential to achieve better outcomes at lower costs.

Kim is the former Global Chair of IMA for 2003-2004 and she served as Chair of the Board of Regents of the ICMA (Institute of Certified Management Accountants).

She served for two years on the Ethics Committee of the Nevada Society of CPA’s (NSCPA).

Kim is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a degree in Business Administration with a major in accounting. In her spare time she enjoys skiing, backpacking, golf, wine tasting and gourmet cooking. She even has a black belt in Aikido.
