Note: Census.gov API services will be unavailable until further notice.

Acquisition Information:

1. Only a very small number of Census Bureau contracts will be considered "excepted" and allowed to proceed in the unlikely event of a shutdown. The specific contracts have been identified and the contractors will be notified by the Acquisition Division.

2. The "excepted" contracts are for very specific services that are required to "keep the lights on" and to protect federal property, systems and personnel. An example may be the security guard services or the infrastructure support personnel at the Bowie Data Center. These "excepted" contracts also employ the bare minimum skeleton crew, and it is not "business as usual."

3. CORs, Program Managers and other Program Area personnel are NOT authorized to instruct any contractors to proceed with work. Only Contracting Officers in the Acquisition Division may authorize work to continue.

Please refer to the attached to assist you while discussing your contracts with your management and with your Contracting Officers. In the event of a closure, Contracting Officers will be available Monday morning (during the orderly shutdown process) to assist you with any questions.
